Invalid input returns 400 before any payment. A request without PAYMENT-SIGNATURE returns 402 with a PAYMENT-REQUIRED header (x402 v2, scheme exact, network eip155:8453). Data is returned only after the facilitator settles; the PAYMENT-RESPONSE header carries the transaction hash.
